San Francisco, California - (The Hosting News) - July 27, 2007 - Managed hosting and colocation company, Hosting.com, managed to avoid problems associated with the widespread power outage affecting the San Francisco area recently. Hosting.com's San Francisco data center located at 630 Third Street, remained fully operational and online throughout the duration of the outage.

Early estimates by PG and E put 30,000 - 50,000 customers without power during this event, many of which were businesses whose operations are completely dependent on power, such as PG and E itself and area data center providers in the downtown San Francisco area.

Darren King, President and CEO of Hosting.com remarked, ''While it's unfortunate that the downtown San Francisco area was hit with a massive power outage, we couldn't be more pleased with the way our facility withstood the test. As a result of our redundant infrastructure and thorough testing and maintenance of that infrastructure by seasoned data center experts, we are happy to report that not a single Hosting.com San Francisco colo client within the data center was affected.''

Hosting.com management plans to fully analyze and evaluate this event and all published reports over the next few days to further prepare for and take any additional steps necessary to ensure that all clients continue to remain unaffected by future power outages. Management believes the recent instability of the power grid in San Francisco will have no impact on the construction plans currently underway that will double the size of Hosting.com's San Francisco facility and provide its clients with collocation suites up to 3,000 sq. ft. to house their mission critical infrastructure.

Since 1996, Hosting.com has provided managed hosting, colocation, disaster recovery and business continuance services to a global customer with a high level of security, reliability and responsiveness. Hosting.com monitors, manages, and enhances the web-based platforms of Web 2.0 companies, software as a service providers (SaaS), content distribution networks (CDN), and medium to large enterprises whose web presence is crucial and high availability mandatory. Hosting.com currently owns and operates its proprietary content delivery grid (CDG) via data center facilities in Louisville, Kentucky; Irvine, California; San Francisco, California; and Boston, Massachusetts. For more information, please call 800-446-7627.

Houston, Texas - (The Hosting News) - July 27, 2007 - The Planet privately held dedicated hosting company, has completed a direct connection with facilities-based network operator, GameRail, under which subscribers will have access to all game servers on The Planet's network, across six data centers in Houston and Dallas.

Will Charnock, Vice President of Technology at The Planet remarked, ''The Planet has always been a destination for competitive online league gaming events. With this peering connection, GameRail is able to extend the reach of our customers to additional cities with a hyper-competitive, low latency and smooth connection to the online gamer.''

The Planet is widely recognized as a first choice for major game server hosts and online game players. With the new connection, GameRail subscribers will be able to bypass the congested and high-latency Internet with a private line straight to their desired game server at The Planet.

John Alden, Vice President of Business Development at GameRail added, ''With the addition of The Planet to our network, our subscribers will see a substantial increase in the desired content titles and game play environments they prefer. The Planet's powerful network performance and reliability provide optimum connections for serious online gamers.''

Online multiplayer computer gaming is one of the fastest growing entertainment activities in the U.S., with more than 40 million people now playing regularly. GameRail recently introduced the first and only network designed to meet the speed and quality needs of the online gaming community. GameRail's bypass network delivers a ''direct-connect'' from the game player to the game host, and avoids the congestion and inefficient routing paths of the regular Internet.

Progression LLC, a Missouri LLC, dba GameRail, is a facilities-based network operator that directly connects game players with broadband to game hosts and vice versa, thereby eliminating game play degrading high latency hops on the Internet. GameRail has interconnection facilities in eight major US markets including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto, Seattle and St. Louis.

The Planet's network is designed to be without single points of failure, which means the network operates with full redundancy for its core routers and distribution switches. The company also offers carrier diversity, with connections to seven Tier-1 telecommunications providers. As a result, customers never face obstacles or suffer from poor peering connections, sub-optimal routing paths, or congested or oversold networks that limit the power, speed and availability of their sites.

Ultimately, The Planet endeavors to provide the following:

High level of network capacity and speed to deliver peak performance

Instant scalability to handle even the largest spikes in network traffic

Parallel, redundant, multi-tiered network routing and switching architecture to assure reliability and stability

Multiple layer network security that prevents Delayed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks from harming businesses

Knowledgeable experts with a passion for excellence and a commitment to operate the best networks in the business

The Planet is a leading provider of On Demand IT Infrastructure solutions, hosting more than 22,000 small and medium size businesses and 2.8 million web sites worldwide, using the best choice of servers, software tools and support, backed by state-of-the-art facilities and network connectivity.

Dallas, Texas - (The Hosting News) - July 26, 2007 - Self-managed, dedicated server products and services firm, Layered Technologies, Inc., along with grid computing and utility firm, 3Tera, have revealed a score of 42,540 by running the UnixBench benchmark on what is believed to be the industry's largest virtual private datacenter, comprised of 443 CPUs, 920GB RAM, and 47 terabytes of storage, controlled with only a browser.

Virtual Private Datacenters are a utility computing solution for operating SaaS and Web 2.0 applications. They eliminate the need for datacenter co-location, private racks and managed hosting services by enabling users to assemble, deploy, monitor and manage all their infrastructure and applications using only a browser.

Peter Nickolov, CTO of 3Tera remarked, ''UnixBench result of 42,540 is unprecedented. It proves that our AppLogic grid operating system scales linearly on grids of commodity servers. We achieved this by running 649 instances of UnixBench 4.1- wht.1 on 443 processors. For comparison, the same benchmark on the same class physical server gives an index of 112 per processor, while a typical Virtual Private Server has an index of 20 to 50. That means virtual private datacenters scale linearly from 10 to more than 100 servers.''

Jeremy Suo-Anttila, CTO of Layered Technologies added, ''Scaling Web 2.0 applications has been difficult because each next step in performance required exponentially more money and hard to find expertise. Our demonstration has shown that virtual private datacenters make this problem go away. Up to at least 443 processors, enough horsepower to run any but the top 100 web services in the world, a virtual private datacenter scales simply and efficiently. When you need more performance, you simply add more servers. This makes it simple and affordable to build Internet scale services.''

Barry X Lynn, Executive Chairman of 3Tera and former CIO of Wells Fargo Bank offered, ''Today's benchmark results are yet further evidence that the future of IT is being defined on the Internet. Linear scalability on commodity hardware at commodity prices is something that hasn't been available to CIOs until now. It will have the same effect on the economics of running a datacenter as the Web had on the economics of sharing information.''

UnixBench is a recognized open source performance benchmark utility widely used to evaluate hosting platforms - both dedicated servers and virtual private servers. To provide results valuable to developers, the benchmark runs 11 different tests indicative of web application performance and provides a single combined score as a result.

The Virtual Private Data Center were showcased this week at the HostingCon event in Chicago. At 3Tera's booth (Booth #101), attendees experienced the system firsthand and met with company representatives to discuss its benefits.
3Tera, Inc. is a grid and utility computing firm, whose goals is to simplify the deployment and scaling of Web applications.

Mountain View, California - (The Hosting News) - July 26, 2007 - Google has revealed that if and when the Federal Communications Commission adopts a framework requiring greater competition and consumer choice, Google intends to participate in the federal government coalition's upcoming auction of wireless spectrum, in the 700 megahertz (MHz) band.

In a filing with the FCC on July 9, Google urged the Commission to adopt rules for the auction that ensure that, regardless of who wins the spectrum at auction, consumers' interests are served. Specifically, Google encouraged the FCC to require the adoption of four types of ''open'' platforms as part of the license conditions:

Open applications: Consumers should be able to download and   utilize any software applications, content, or services they desire;

Open devices: Consumers should be able to utilize a   handheld communications device with whatever wireless network they prefer;

Open services: Third parties (resellers) should be able to acquire wireless services from a 700 MHz licensee on a wholesale basis, based on reasonably nondiscriminatory commercial terms; and

Open networks: Third parties (like internet service providers) should be able to interconnect at any technically feasible point in a 700 MHz licensee's wireless network.

As a sign of Google's commitment to promoting greater innovation and choices for consumers, CEO Eric Schmidt sent a letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, stating that should the FCC adopt all four license conditions requested above, Google intends to commit a minimum of $4.6 billion to bidding in the upcoming 700 MHz auction.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - (The Hosting News) - July 25, 2007 - ASP.net hosting and SQL hosting provider, DiscountASP.NET, has chosen Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) solutions provider, Prolexic Technologies, to enhance protection, through the company's Domain Name System (DNS) and mitigation services system.

An ASP.NET hosting provider with over 25,000 customers in 130 countries, DiscountASP.NET selected the Prolexic Clean Pipe Virtual Transport Network for enhanced DNS DDoS detection and mitigation services following a major DNS attack in June 2007 that affected its entire infrastructure. DiscountASP.NET secured the Prolexic service to mitigate the attack and for protection against future attacks, which are occurring more frequently and with greater intensity across the web hosting industry.

Takeshi Eto, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at DiscountASP.NET remarked, ''Ensuring the viability of our customers' web presence is of the utmost concern to us. The size of this recent DNS DDoS attack was unprecedented in our company's history, saturating our gigabit per second connection to our upstream provider. We immediately recognized the need to invest in an enterprise-class solution and to fortify our customers against future attacks. Prolexic is the choice of many Fortune 500 companies, so we went with the 'heavy hitter.'''

DNS serves as the 'front door' to web sites, allowing Internet users to connect to their favorite sites through alphabetical domain names rather than numerical IP addresses. When a DNS DDoS attack sends a flood of malicious traffic against a hosting provider's network infrastructure, the provider can be overwhelmed with requests, disrupting or eliminating its ability to serve its thousands of customers.

Keith Laslop, President of Prolexic added, ''In the past, companies rarely considered protecting their crucial DNS infrastructure. Yet this is changing as a result of more and more intense DNS attacks against companies of all sizes. Our DNS DDoS solution is designed to help mitigate an attack as soon as it begins regardless of the volume, in this recent situation with DiscountASP.NET.''

Prolexic Technologies provides solutions designed to protect Internet operations from the debilitating service disruptions caused by DDoS attacks. Prolexic's patent-pending Clean Pipe Virtual Transport network offers solutions that keep its clients' Internet-facing infrastructures free of DDoS traffic. Without making major adjustments or multimillion-dollar investments in their existing hardware infrastructures, Prolexic's customers rest assured that their network borders are secure and can thus focus on what is really important: their businesses.

Our DNS DDoS solution is designed to help mitigate an attack as soon as it begins regardless of the volume, in this recent situation with DiscountASP.NET.''
